The Hinny Research Project.
In the summer of 2006, I
purchased a mammoth jennet that had been bred to a stallion before
we bought her. She foaled in early February and the foal died
that evening at Michigan State University.

hinny foal that she lost |
Hinnys are very difficult to
produce as the conception rate is quite low when a jennet is served
by a stallion, unlike a high conception rate when a horse mare is
server by a jack!
The initial breeding was
evidently a barnyard, behind the trailer sort of a liaison between
Curly (my jennet) and some unknown stud horse.
In the interest of science we
will attempt to produce another hinny foal! This time with a high
class sire and under optimum conditions.
Amanda Ragon D.V.M, Dipl. ACT
of Equine Fertility Specialties of Dansville, Mi. will be in charge
of this exciting project. She also has graciously agreed to donate
her services which will include stallion collection, ultrasounds and
the many other aspects of this project.
The stallion we will use is
Ozzie, a 14 year old black racking horse, the 2001 world
champion. Owners are Bill and Darlene Harris of Perry, Mi. .
